Job Summary:
The Category Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic plans to maximize the profitability and growth of a specific product category or group of related products within a retail or e-commerce environment. This role involves extensive market analysis, product selection, pricing strategy, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive category strategy aligned with the organization’s overall goals.
- Identify market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive landscape to inform category decisions.
- Curate and select products within the category, including assessing new products, discontinuing underperforming items, and negotiating with suppliers.
- pricing strategies for products within the category, taking into account competitive pricing, cost margins, and pricing elasticity.
- Monitor and adjust pricing as needed to maximize profitability.
- Develop and monitor advertising, promotions, and seasonal sales strategies.
- Conduct ongoing analysis of competitors’ product offerings, pricing, and marketing strategies.
- Make data-driven recommendations to maintain a competitive edge.
- Monitor sales performance for the category, identifying areas for improvement and growth.
- Create and analyze sales reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Negotiate terms and agreements with suppliers, including pricing, delivery, and payment terms.
- Ensure favorable supplier relationships and contractual agreements.
- Collaborate with various departments, such as marketing, sales, and supply chain, to achieve category goals.
- Implement improvements based on customer preferences and needs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field (Master’s degree may be preferred for senior roles).
- Several years of experience in category management, product management, or related roles.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis tools.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
